OuT.Rex MSX is a retro game written (badly) by Alberto (BCO) Sgaggero in MSX BASIC for the MSX computer family

It is a personal reinterpretation of the Chrome Dino

Just like in Chrome Dino, the player controls a cute Tyrannosaurus Rex running across a charming digital desert.

Unlike the previous ASCII versions, the graphics in this edition are made with hardware sprites, including an animated 16x16 T.Rex sprite.

The entire game fits in just 10 lines of MSX BASIC code.

The game does not use smooth scrolling: the dinosaur runs from the left side of the screen to the right, and when it exits the screen it reappears on the opposite side. Meanwhile, the background color changes to simulate different times of day, and the cacti appear in new positions.

The project originally started back in 2022 on the Commodore VIC-20 as an entry for a competition, before evolving into different versions over the years.

You can find the VIC-20 PETSCII version of the game here:

You can find the Commodore 64 PETSCII version of the game here:

You can find the MSX ASCII (character-modified) version of the game here:

The goal is simple: avoid the strange cacti by jumping over them.

Press the space bar to start the game, and press it again to jump.

Have fun!
